You want to make an automatically updatable chart that shows actual designed areas of program space versus required program space. Or you want to create polygons to measure wall area for ResCheck calcs and keep track of your measurements.
In your file, begin in the Resource Browser. In the upper right side arrow drop-down menu, select “New Resource in (your filename)”
Choose “Record Format”
Name the format “Program Area”. Create new fields:
Select all your area rectangles or polygons and in the Data tab of the Object Info palette, check the box beside “Program Area”
Now all the rectangles are associated with the record.
Fill in data fields for each rectangle. Now you’re ready to pull the data into a worksheet.
Under the Tools menu, go to Reports, and Create Report. Name the worksheet “Program Area vs. Actual Area”
The excel-like worksheet appears. In the Database Header row, highlight the box above “Actual Area”. In the command window, type “=AREA/144” (You can find various automatic commands in the arrow drop-down menu under “Paste Function…”)
All the actual areas should appear next to their room name. If you resize the area boxes, all you have to do is Recalculate in the drop-down menu of the worksheet.
You can also add headings and adjust your fonts & sizes through the drop-down menu in the worksheet.
