VectorWorks 12.5.0 Organization Definitions
Organization Palette under Tools Menu
Classes
- Organizes drawn objects, notes, & view ports into categories that can be shown or hidden depending on what information is to be shown.
-
- Can be organized according to AIA standards, VW standards, or customized depending on the scope of the project.
-
- Can set each object in a particular class to have the same line & fill attributes or the same texture if using RenderWorks. This is optional for each class.
-
Design Layers
- Sets a drawing “tablet” at a defined drawing scale. Sets up & organizes 3D “levels” of a building, such as a particular story’s walls, exterior grade(s), floor slabs, roof, etc. The organization palette determines the order in which these 3D layers will be stacked.
- One can use layer colors & differing opacity levels, this is an optional feature that is set in the document preferences.
Sheet Layers
- Sheets that will be printed and contain view ports. Everything drawn on a sheet layer will be at 1:1 scale.
- Each sheet layer can be set to its own paper sizes & printing resolution.
Viewports
- A live picture of a design layer (or layers of the same scale) that can be cropped & moved on the sheet layer for ideal printing.
- Each view port can have its own class set up depending on what one plans to show. Example: Architectural plan vs. Electrical plan.
- Specific classes in a viewport can be changed to have different line & fill attributes than they would in a design layer. This is helpful for doing structural plans.
- Addition notes (Annotations) can be added to each viewport at the same scale as the referenced design layer. These notes will not appear on the original design layers.
- 3D rendered views can also be set as a viewport, but will not reflect changes made to the design layer unless it is updated in the object info palette.
Saved View
- Saved views are a combination of saved layer(s) &/or class(s) settings that generally activates a design layer. A specific view &/or page location can also be saved as a saved view. This is helpful for the purpose of drawing or showing a 3D view without having to regenerate a perspective each time.
